Planning your own vacation with Captain Doug:

The Caribbean is filled with wonderful island groups, each with their own unique charm but all swept by the easterly trade winds. Regardless of where you sail, you will find great sailing, world class beaches, appealing culture, and yet each group offers a flavor all its own.

  • The British Virgin Islands (BVI's) offer unique geography, boulder-strewn beaches, fun local beach bars and a great party atmosphere. Captain Doug keeps tabs on the best music clubs, quietest anchorages and pristine snorkeling spots.  Many resorts remain closed following the hurricanes, so the anchorages will be less crowded.

  •  For a French connection, the leeward islands off of Guadeloupe offer un-crowded beaches, fresh daily croissants, a rain forest and perfectly oriented sailing grounds offering comfortable beam reaches on all passages.  Don't forget quaint, sophisticated Martinique.

  • For a mixture of cultures, sailing the waters of St. Martin provides an interface of French, Dutch, and English sensibilities that range from the non-stop parties of Marigot Bay to the quiet anchorages of Anguilla to elegant St. Barts.  They are rebuilding after Hurricane Irma.

  • Further down the chain are the island jewels of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).  These islands offer a rich array of authentic Caribbean culture and unspoiled beauty.  You'll find them enchanting, from the peak of St. Vincent’s La Soufrière volcano to the sea level palm-thatched umbrella on Mopian sandbank.
